The main execution standards for plastic cups include GB/T standards and ISO standards. GB/T is the China National Standard, and ISO is the International Standard. The standard contents of the two are basically the same, both stipulating the specifications and testing methods for plastic cups. GB/T standards generally apply to plastic cup products produced and sold domestically, while ISO standards apply to plastic cup products in international trade.
In China, the relevant standard for plastic cups is GB/T 18048-2008, which mainly stipulates various indicators and testing methods for plastic cups, including materials, appearance, size, weight, density, composition, and safety. In addition, there are the "National Food Safety Standard Food Contact Plastic Materials and Articles" (GB 4806.7—2016) and "Plastic Drinking Cups" (QB/T 4049—2021). These standards stipulate the food safety performance indicators and requirements for appearance, odor, capacity deviation, sealing performance, impact resistance, low-temperature resistance, heat resistance, and usability of food-contact plastic products.
When purchasing plastic cups, please pay attention to the following points:
Check for the absence of black spots and impurities, and ensure that the label information is clear and complete.
Smell for any irritating odors.
Check if it easily deforms when squeezed, and if it easily softens and deforms during heating.
Check for food safety performance indicators for food-contact plastic products, such as sensory requirements, total migration, potassium permanganate consumption, heavy metals (calculated as Pb), discoloration test, and specific migration.
Check for requirements such as impact resistance, low-temperature resistance, heat resistance, and usability.
Check for biodegradable standards, such as ISO14855 degradation testing, and compliance with standards such as ASTM6954-04 (American standard) or EN13432 (European standard).
The above standards ensure that the quality of plastic cups meets production and use requirements, guaranteeing consumer safety and health.
